Graeme Mathie has been appointed head of football strategy, operations and performance at the Scottish FA. He will report directly to Chief Football Officer Craig Mulholland and be based at Hampden Park.

Craig Mulholland welcomed the appointment. "Graeme is an important appointment for us and we’re delighted to be adding him to the football leadership team," he said.

Mathie's wide-ranging remit will incorporate national youth teams, grassroots football, performance analysis, coach education and data insights. The role also covers football administration and innovation across both the men's and women's games.

"I’m delighted to be joining the Scottish FA at what feels like an exciting time for the game," Mathie said. He has volunteered on both the SPFL Board and the Scottish FA’s Professional Game Board in recent years.

Hibs connection and recruitment legacy

Mathie spent seven years at Hibernian, rising from head of recruitment to sporting director. His tenure is remembered for overseeing the signing of John McGinn from St Mirren in 2015, a deal that proved foundational for the club. Before joining Hibs, he served as managing director of Ayr United.

His move to the national association comes as Hibernian sit in the Premiership. The squad's current form and standings provide the backdrop for a club now looking to build a new chapter.

Mathie will now focus on shaping Scotland's football future from Hampden, working as part of the leadership team under Mulholland.
