Steve Evans has dismissed speculation linking him to the Hibernian job, stating there has been 'no contact' from the Scottish Premiership club. The Bristol Rovers manager reaffirmed his commitment to his current project, having signed a new contract in April that runs until 2028.
Evans, 63, took charge at the Memorial Stadium last December and guided the club to safety in League Two. His side currently sit sixth in the table with four wins from their opening seven games, though they suffered a 3-0 defeat away to Gillingham on Saturday. They face a challenging next fixture against league leaders Stockport County. "I'm humbled to be linked to a job like that because if you're a Scotsman you know how big a football club that is but I'm not going anywhere," Evans said.
Evans on his future
The manager, who has a 32-year career in management but has never worked in Scotland, is a lifelong Celtic fan. He admitted the only roles that could lure him away from Bristol Rovers would be with "a certain team in Glasgow" or to manage his country, but conceded he does not expect either opportunity to arise now. "I've come here to deliver on a project - it doesn't feel like that driving home this evening - but my commitment is to this football club," he added.
Hibernian are searching for a new manager after parting ways with David Gray on 16 September following a run of six successive home defeats. The club's immediate focus is on improving their league position, having taken just seven points from their first seven games to sit 10th. Their recent form shows one win, one draw and three losses from the last five matches.
With Evans now out of the running, Hibernian's board continues its search for a permanent successor. The club's squad, which includes top scorer C. Wright with two goals this season, can be viewed in detail on our squad page.
