Huge Derby Draw for Hibernian in Premier Sports Cup
Hibernian have been drawn against Rangers in the Premier Sports Cup quarter-finals, setting up a huge derby for the Easter Road side.
The draw for the quarter-finals was made after Rangers, Hearts, Hibs, and Stenhousemuir booked their spot. Kilmarnock were first to enter the hat after beating Ayr United on Friday, before Celtic, Aberdeen, and Ross County joined them in the last eight with wins over Dundee United, Dundee, and Dunfermline respectively on Saturday.
On Sunday, Hearts came from behind to beat Inverness 5-2 at Tynecastle, Hibs squeezed past Partick 1-0 at Easter Road, and Stenhousemuir shocked Motherwell with a 1-0 victory after extra-time at Ochilview.
Rangers then completed the quarter-final line-up following a 5-1 win over St Mirren at Ibrox that secured a first win in charge for Derek McInnes at the fifth attempt.
The draw for the quarter-finals was made following that match and has thrown up a huge Old Firm derby. Rangers were the first name out of the hat, followed by Celtic, with the rivals set to go head-to-head at Ibrox on the weekend of September 12 and 13 for a place in the semi-finals.
It means that the pair will clash twice in the space of a week, with Celtic due to host Rangers at Parkhead in the first Old Firm of the Premiership season the following Sunday, September 20.
Reacting to the draw live on Premier Sports, Rangers boss McInnes said: "It's a mouthwatering tie right away.
"Normally that's the tie the sponsors would want further in the competition, but now we've got it here it's a good opportunity for us.
"It'll be tough, as you would expect, but we're looking forward to it when it comes round."
